Red Steel may just have been the first game that anybody heard of for the Wii. It is the first first-person shooter built from the ground up exclusively for the Wii. In this title you will use the Wii's innovative remote control and nunchuk combination to shoot at thugs as well as slash opponents with a katana sword.
The store, though not very deep, is an interesting one. You work through the game to save your girlfriend who has been kidnapped her father's enemies who is a high-ranking Yakuza boss.
The visuals of this game won't blow your mind, although they look decent and the explosion dynamics are down right amazing. The Artificial intelligence of the game is a mixed bag. Sometimes your enemies are quite smart and will duck behind walls and tables, other times they will stand right in front of you and do nothing as you take time to reload your gun.
Another good idea found is this game is the zoom option with the guns. By pushing the remote towards the screen you can zoom in on an opponent. Unfortunately it appears that this was not quite tweaked. As you lock onto an enemy and then zoom in, it becomes quite easy to lose sight of your opponent. There is also a "bullet time" feature where you can gain focus time and slow down the action to pin point your enemy's guns (or any other target) and shoot it out of their hands, then move the remote to motion them to surrender.
Red Steel is not an overly great game. However , what it does do is show very clearly that the Wii is a perfect system for the FPS genre. The game incorporates a large number of excellent control ideas with the Wii Remote, I myself am truly anxious to see a Red Steel Two
